Reader Jose wrote in to tell us that MMS has finally come to the iPhone! Er… Sorta:
since yesterday, vodafone Portugal has a MMS app for the iPhone! It looks like the mail app and it works very well! It’s awesome, you can send and recieve MMS.. but it only works on iPhones from vodafone Portugal! It’s called iMMS!
We’ve heard about European-localized iPhone MMS apps before, but this appears to be the first on to actually become officially available [iTunes Portugal App Store Link].
Full screenshot gallery after the break, but we gotta ask: anyone here want a version for their country?

iMMS Comes to the iPhone… in Portugal!
With built-in YouTube, SlingMedia Player in the works, and now Ustream announcing an iPhone viewer, is Flash still going to dominate most-wanted lists, or is Apple actually halting Adobe’s video advance? We don’t know, but we do know we’re really excited by the mobile video options we’re already seeing:
Ustream has developed an application for the 3G iphone that allows you to watch Ustream anywhere w/everyone. Regardless of where you are at and what you are doing, you can choose to be in the moment with others in a shared live experience around a live event. If you are out-on-the-town and know that a guest speaker at a major conference is “going live” and want to watch live and be-in-the-crowd, then you can with this application. You will be able to watch the Inauguration LIVE on Ustream with chat.
If Apple approves the Ustream Viewer in time, who’ll be watching?

The crash and near miraculous rescue of the passengers and crew of U.S. Airways Flight 1549 in New York City has been big news for the last day. Like many news events, it has been extensively covered by news agencies, and, as we are seeing more frequently now, by the public using camera phones.iPhone pix making front pages originally appeared on The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) on Fri, 16 Jan 2009 14:30:00 EST. Tweetie, my current favorite Twitter client for the iPhone, has just been updated to version 1.2 [iTunes link]. While the update offers a slew of enhancements, new features and improved functionality, what makes this release memorable and unique is the sly dose of humor developer Loren Brichter inserted in the latest version of the app.Tweetie 1.2 for iPhone adds Instapaper, enhanced functionality and some hilarity originally appeared on The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) on Fri, 16 Jan 2009 13:45:00 EST. Warning: Video possibly NSFW-ish. If bikini bouncing will get you in trouble, stay clear.
We previously mentioned in passing that Apple had rejected iBoobs, an iPhone app that presented accelerometer-powered cartoon jiggling. Apparently this crossed even the (sigh) fart app line. Well, the Register says Wobble decided to get around this by not providing any built in booty, cartoon or otherwise. All it does is enable user-definable “wobble” zones in ANY photo or image. We’re guessing that while the above video makes the real focus clear enough, Wobble was likely submitted to Apple with more innocuous images, like jello or cartoon puppies or what not.
As such, Wobble is now one of the more than 15,000 apps available via the iTunes App Store. You buying it? Protesting it? Protesting out loud while nonchalantly hitting the download link?
And guys, before you get too jiggly with it, just imagine what the ladies might do in Wobble revenge…

Sneaky iPhone Developer Wobbles Around Apple’s “Boob” Ban

So once again AT&T seems to be having issues. TiPb reported on the two previous outages, which seemed to effect a much larger area then the current outage.
I read one report of someone in Philadelphia on the forums today, did not think much of it until I read a post on BGR just now. According to a BGR tipster this outage is effecting affecting Philadelphia and the surrounding areas. It is creating the inability to hear the party on the other end of the line during outbound and inbound calls. Data at this point does not seem to be effected.
AT&T is said to be well aware of the situation and is working on getting it back up to be fully operational. So just how many of our readers are currently having issues? Anyone?

If you haven’t seen it already, a new hero image has taken it’s place boom smack in the middle of the home page and it’s announcement couldn’t be more mind-boggling: the App Store now includes over 15,000 iPhone applications, and iPhone users have downloaded apps more that 500,000,000 times.
Considering the App Store only launched 6 months ago, we’re reminded of what Steve Jobs said last quarter — that, in all his time at Apple, they’d never seen platform growth or attachment rates this fast and this furious.
How many apps do you think you’ve downloaded?

Done, the iPhone task list manager we mentioned a little while back, is now live in the App Store. It's pretty slick, and falls right in the middle between a simple task list and a robust task management application like Things or OmniFocus. We hosted a contest in that last post, passing on a request from the developers for witty lists, the best of which (chosen by the developers) would be used in the App Store marketing materials. You all came through, and winners were chosen from the ranks.
The winners, chosen by Chillix, are KJP, Chad, Kevin, Todd, Gary & Kurt!
Some of the winners posted directly on the Chillix site, some posted here. If your list was chosen and you haven't been contacted yet, expect to hear from the developers soon. Thanks to everyone who participated!

Welcome to iPhone 101, TiPb’s single point of success for new iPhone users, and for veterans who know new users and need a quick and helpful place to point them. This time we’re going to take a look at how to personalize your iPhone with a different — even custom — wallpaper of your own choosing, including your own photos and artwork.
We’ll show you how, after the break.
Begin from your iPhone’s home screen. If you’re not on the home screen, just press the big button on the bottom of your iPhone, then tap the Settings icon (default location is on the first Home screen, right hand side in the middle). At the bottom of the Settings screen will be the Wallpaper option.

Tap on Wallpaper and a set of galleries will slide across into view.

The topmost gallery is chock full of Apple provided wallpapers, focused on organic imagery including flowers, insects, rocks, trees, etc., as well as famous works of art, and a few patterns. (See the screenshot at the top of this how-to)
Below the default gallery is a list topped off by your Camera Roll (any pictures you’ve taken with your iPhone camera), and Photo Library, which includes every other picture currently stored on your iPhone (synced from your PC or Mac via iTunes).
Lastly are all the individual photo galleries, if any, listed by name. This can be a quicker way to find a specific photo in your library, provided you remember in which gallery you’ve filed it.
To pick your wallpaper, starting by choosing one of the photo galleries outlined above. This will bring up a series of thumbnails containing all the images in the chosen gallery. If there are too many thumbnails to fit on a single screen, you can swipe up or down to navigate through them.

When you find the photo or image you want, tap on it. A full screen preview will slide up.
From this screen, you can scale the image by touching two fingers to the screen and pinching them together (to shrink it) or spreading them apart (to grow it).

If the image is larger than the iPhone’s display (320 pixels wide by 480 pixels high in portrait mode), or you’ve zoomed in on it, you can also touch one finger to the screen and move it around to slide the image into exactly the right position (for example, to center a face in a photograph).

To return the image to it’s original size and re-center it, just double tap the screen.
When you’ve got the image just the way you want it, tap the Set Wallpaper button on the bottom right and the next time you wake your iPhone, your new wallpaper will leap up to greet you.

We’ve shown you before how to email a picture from within the Photo viewer. The same process can be used to quickly set any picture you’re currently looking at as the default wallpaper, simply select the Use As Wallpaper option instead.

Now that you know how to change your wallpaper, maybe you’re looking for some images to try out? Look no further than TiPb’s iPhone Forum, where our resident super-moderator Bad Ash kicked off a thread now containing a veritable gold-mine of wallpapers. And if you have any trouble, it’s the perfect place to ask questions and get some personalized help. You can even share some favorite wallpapers of your own!
