Crackulous released, promises to bust iPhone app protection scheme

If Apple's sat back and let the iPhone hacking community do its thing in peace (well, relative peace) so far, this little gem just might be what the doctor ordered to stir up the crap. Crackulous -- available now in beta form through Cydia -- claims to be able to strip the protection off most apps downloaded from the App Store, meaning that just a single user needs to take the plunge and buy a target app once to get it busted and into free circulation. You need a jailbroken iPhone to get Crackulous loaded, naturally -- you'll see Apple make a Windows Mobile-powered device before you'll see Crackulous in the App Store -- but seeing how PwnageTool is dead simple to use, this puts most users just a couple graphical tools away from foolproof piracy and the golden opportunity to take a few hard-earned bucks out of a programmer's pocket.

iClipper: Copy and paste without jailbroken iPhone

iPhone users already had several softwares or solutions in doing copy and paste, but seems most of them have a few drawbacks: all the text you copy and paste get sent over the Internet (iCopy), works only within the app - so there is no cross-app copy and pasting (MagicPad) ...

iPhone Celebrity Sightings… er… Twitter’ings: Ashton and Demi Edition

The continuing evolution of Twitter as a mainstream celebrity interactive communication platform powered by Apple’s revolutionary internet device, the iPhone 3G, and awesome client side apps Twitterfon and Tweetie, or the end of all things geeky-fringe and techno-pure? Or just a cheap excuse for us to link-bait some celebrities (who are not Stephen Fry) using iPhone’s and tweeting on Superbowl Sunday?

Yes!

Does it matter to us if celebrities like Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore use the iPhone? Do we care if they increasingly make their presence felt on Twitter? And does their choice of iPhone Twitter client influence our own preference? And either way, what does it tell us about the iPhone, Twitter, and the celebrities who choose to use them? (You can answer below, or on Twitter from your favorite iPhone client for extra irony points!)

Video: Stimulant’s XRay mobile app brings SecondLight to any ‘ol Surface

Stimulant's XRay mobile app brings SecondLight to any 'ol Surface
When Microsoft demonstrated Surface we were impressed. Then, when they later showed off SecondLight, we were even more impressed -- and then were sorry for anyone who had made the considerable investment in one of the earlier, singularly-lighted tables. We're feeling better now (thanks for asking) after seeing a video demonstration of XRay, a mobile app from Stimulant (who earlier blended a Wii Balance Board with a Surface) that provides similar functionality; letting you effectively see secondary images on the touch-table. The app relies on the ability of the Surface to detect where the phones are, communicating that position to tell them what to display and in what orientation. First up was the iPhone, as seen above, but the app has apparently already been ported to Windows Mobile and Android, meaning most-anyone can get in on the action -- assuming they have both a smart table and smart phone. A-ha-inspired video included below for your '80s flashback amusement.

Got $15,000 for an iPhone Accessory? Mamiya Has the DL28 Digital Camera System!

Every week, the TWiT.tv network produces MacBreak Weekly netcast (podcast). Every week, the panel on MacBreak Weekly announces their “picks of the week”. This week, noted photographer Scott Bourne’s pick was a $15,000 iPhone accessory: the Mamiya DL28 Digital Camera System.

Okay, technically it’s a lot more than just an accessory. It’s a professional caliber digital camera, but Bourne chose it because it… works with the iPhone, with full multi-touch support!

Reportedly, you’ll be able to view pictures as they are taken (similar to how a laptop-tethered solution works) and perhaps do some manipulation of the images as well. Not sure if it’s a WiFi/Bonjour solution like the Apple Remote app, but seeing the iPhone’s interface potential being increasingly leveraged by technology like the Mamiya, SONOS, etc. is very exciting.

And, Bourne also informed us this was only the second most expensive iPhone accessory he’s come across. The most expensive, currently, is an iPhone compatible Mercedes Benz…

Anyone breaking out their American Express Black Card for a little shopping spree? And for those more budget conscious among us, what other devices would you like to control with your iPhone? Your Roomba? Your fridge? Let us know!

iPhones should work well at the Super Bowl

If you're going to be at Super Bowl XLIII today, your iPhone may actually work. Several companies have brought in massive amounts of equipment to handle what will certainly be an extraordinary increase of cellular and data traffic.

ADC, a cable and wireless technology provider, has brought in a special system they have deployed at Raymond James Stadium. The equipment will provide coverage throughout the stadium, including the inner bowl, all seating levels, luxury boxes, offices and locker rooms, and the stadium parking area.

The firm expects the system to handle between 10,000 to 15,000 simultaneous calls. Meanwhile, our friends at AT&T have added to the two cell sites that are already in the stadium. They have also beefed up coverage at the Tampa International Airport, downtown hotels, at the University of South Florida Sun Dome and team practice fields.

AT&T is also increasing the capacity of the 2G network by 400% and the 3G network by 335%.The company has also brought in two additional mobile cells on wheels that will cover the stadium parking lots.

I would expect there will be a lot of texting, calling, and pictures sent from the iPhones in the stands. It will be interesting to see how well the system actually holds up.
