OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard for Mac and iPhone?

We already knew that Apple’s next computer operating system, OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard (estimated for delivery mid-2009) was leveraging some of the amazing work done by the iPhone team, including the highly optimized QuickTime X. Now Apple Insider brings word that things like CoreLocation and more Multi-Touch might be making their way back to the big desktop brother as well:

CoreLocation will utilize a Mac’s existing networking hardware to triangulate the system’s location in a manner similar to the way the original iPhone was able to use the technology to emulate a true global positioning signal. [...] Snow Leopard will also gain access to a new set of Cocoa-based programing interfaces for leveraging the multi-touch features of the latest MacBooks and MacBook Pros within their applications.

The synergy between Apple’s desktop and mobile OS X development really seems to not only be benefitting both platforms, and optimizing R&D’s bottom-line, but bouncing off each other in iterative splendor. Hopefully iPhone OS 3.0 can take a little back as well — I’m looking at you universal spotlight search!

Nine-year old writes iPhone app, hates vegetables

We've seen plenty of remarkable kids -- the world is just bursting with them -- and Lim Ding Wen, a nine-year-old from Singapore is no exception. Like his father, Wen enjoys writing iPhone apps in his spare time. His application, called Doodle Kids, is a drawing application for children that he wrote for his two younger sisters, who enjoy drawing, and it's already been downloaded over 4,000 times (we just checked in the App Store and it does indeed appear to be quite popular) since its release on February 1st. Wen, who is fluent in six programming languages and enjoys reading books about -- you guessed it -- computer programming, is already hard at work on his next app, a game called "Invader Wars." We can't wait to see that one!

First Look: Analytics for iPhone

Google Analytics is a popular and quite useful set of tools for monitoring a web site's traffic and performance. Set up is a snap and the reports are easy to read and flexible. You can create goals, monitor traffic and so on. What more could you want? On-the-go reports via your iPhone? All of your target statistics in your pocket? Oh, all right.

Earlier this week, Michael D Jensen of Inblosam LLC released Analytics App, which presents everything you'd ever want from Google Analytics on your iPhone. It is exhaustive.

When you first launch Analytics App, you're asked for your Google login (you must have a pre-existing Analytics account). From there, a list of all the sites you're monitoring appears. Click any one and view nearly 30 reports, including traffic, visitors, content ... even events tracking you've set up and your own customized reports. It's speedy over Wi-Fi and EDGE.

For example, Analytics App's traffic reports include referring sites, search engines, keywords, AdWords campaigns and more. Set the date range of any report to sort by day, week or month. The Dashboard provides an overview complete with easy-to-read graphs.

For $5.99US, this application is a keeper. Up-to-date stats from all of your sites, available nearly anywhere, makes our geeky little hearts go pitter-pat.

We have a few good topics being discussed on the forums today, so lets get right to it.

First up, What is the most over-rated missing iPhone feature? MMS? Copy and Paste perhaps? Something else? Check that thread out and cast your vote!

Back in December we told you that AT&T started selling refurbished iPhones. Well that brings us to our next thread, started by Madscotsman. He is wondering about the quality of the refurbished iPhones that AT&T is currently selling. If you have bought one, how is it holding up? Is everything grand or have you had issues?

This next thread was started by xintelinsanex, it’s all about the new iPhone. What do you expect from Apple? Better camera, more storage, how about a higher resolution screen? Describe what your ideal next generation iPhone should be!

New to iPhone and need some protection to make sure it stays in perfect condition? Well you are going to need a case and what a better thread to see what other forum members are using than the iPhone 3G Case Options thread. If you bought a case that you loved or hated… be sure to give your opinion!

This mobile companion to the Mint.com Web service is a fine option for keeping track of your finances on a casual basis, but it suffers from limited functionality.
