Discover shares computer files to iPhone with new app

Free iPhone app Discover isn’t as polished a solution to hosting, sharing, and transfering files to and from your iPhone as Air Sharing, but for casual use, it’s hard to beat the free price. As most new iPhone/touch owners find out, usually in a disappointing revelation, their devices are the only Apple portables that don’t offer [...]

New iPhone ads appear, bring joy and good cheer

Last night while watching House, I saw what seemed to be a new iPhone commercial featuring some pretty interesting applications. Despite the fact that I was watching this particular episode on my DVR, I stopped fast-forwarding through the commercials so I could catch the latest Apple showcase of iPhone applications.

For many people, if you've seen one commercial for a given product, then you've seen all the commercials you need to see. Not so with iPhone. As these commercials so ably show, the iPhone isn't just one product, it's thousands of products. Thanks to the App Store, the iPhone and iPod Touch have become a tour de force of gaming, productivity, networking, and so forth. The success has become so ubiquitous that I am even willing to watch a commercial to learn of new applications that could enhance my life.

The good news is that after stopping by MacDailyNews I discovered that there are a total of three new iPhone commercials available for your viewing pleasure; all without having to interrupt any commercial-skipping. MDN has the hot scoop replete with YouTube vids to fill your stomach with all sorts of unicorn teary goodness. You can also check out the new advertisements, "Itchy," "Office," and "Student," in extremely huge resolution over at Apple.com

The totally titanic team at Tapbot have gone above and beyond for TiPb readers with this one!

First, they’ve given us five (5) Promo Codes for their latest greatest unit converter, Convertbot [iTunes link], a sweet app with a stunning interface, designed to make the admittedly tedious task of converting one measurement into a another a deliciously tactile, actually enjoyable experience.

But wait, there’s more! They’ve also given us five (5) Promo Codes for their classic weight tracker, Weightbot [iTunes link], a great app with a gorgeous interface, and just in time (again!) for bikini season (or whatever the rest of you wear to work…)

Want a chance to get either one of them — or if pure random luck comes your way — both of them, for FREE? Head on over to our forum and post your reply in the Convertbot Give Away and/or Weightbot Give Away threads.

(As always, to use Promo Codes, you need access to the US App Store).

New iPhone parts begin shipping from suppliers for June launch?

Posted on by Thomas Ricker.
Categories: Uncategorized.
At this point there's little doubt that a new iPhone model (possibly two) will at least be announced in June. The Commercial Times is now reporting that components from Taiwan-based suppliers have begun shipments as Apple (or its China-based assemblers, rather) readies for a "June launch" pegged by said suppliers to reach about 2-3 million units per quarter. A phone that looks to be fitted with a 3.2 megapixel still / video CMOS camera, digital compass (magnetometer), more storage, and all the MMS, copy/paste, and push-notifications you shake a gesticulating finger at.

More on New Gmail WebApp for iPhone: HTML5, Offline Access, Easy Linking

Posted on by Rene Ritchie.
Categories: Uncategorized.

Daring Fireball has been looking into Google’s new Gmail WebApp for the iPhone and the technologies behind it. We already know the iPhone packs a version of Apple’s Safari Web Browser which is, in some ways, even more advanced than desktop Safari on the Mac. SQLite database caching, for example, for example users continue to archive or star messages even when there’s no internet connection. What’s more interesting to him, us — and likely users — is how that technology improves functionality.

Says Gruber:

I use the native iPhone Mail app to read email on my iPhone, but I’m tempted to start using the Gmail web app for one reason: I waste a lot of time switching back and forth between Mail and Safari after tapping a URL in an email. When using the Gmail web app, tapped links simply open in a new Safari tab. The iPhone Mail app needs a built-in web view, like what most popular iPhone Twitter clients offer.

Google’s Alex Nicolaou has blogged about the process.

We once wondered what the future of WebApps would be in a post-native apps world. Looks like Google expects — and is out to prove — things still look very bright.

Anyone else considering ditching the built-in mobile Mail app for some web-based Gmail?

Apple releases 3 new “There’s an App for that” commercials, to mixed reviews

Sling’s $50 rebate on iPhone-compatible boxes rendered useless by stupid pricing

Posted on by Chris Ziegler.
Categories: Uncategorized.
Think Sling Media is partially making up for its ridiculous arbitrary lockout of iPhones on older Slingboxes by offering a $50 credit toward the purchase of a new model? Think again: turns out that the credit is applied against prices in Sling's own online store, which are already jacked beyond reason. Actually, they aren't, they're just MSRP -- but let's be honest, no one pays MSRP for anything anymore, and you can get either the SOLO or the PRO-HD for less from Amazon than from Sling's store after the frickin' credit. It's a pretty backhanded way to say "thanks" to your early adopters -- and it's just a shame that the iPhone version of the SlingPlayer will likely be a strong enough draw to let the company get away with murder.
