Tap Tap Revenge 3 is apparently
going gangbusters over on the App Store -- Tapulous has gotten in touch with us to let us know about two different free promotions they're doing lately, as well as give you readers a chance to win
their entire catalog for free.
First up, the free stuff for everybody. Today, October 22, they're giving away the great song
"Fireflies" by one of my favorite new music acts, Owl City. It just happens to also be the number one song in iTunes today as well, which is a pretty big deal for Tapulous -- it's the first time they've been able to pair up a TTR track release with a #1 on the download charts.
To get that free song, just sign in to the application and pick it up. Additionally, if you don't have the app yet, buying the app before this Friday can get you a free premium two-pack -- all you have to do for that is email your iTunes reciept (or a screenshot of it) to "freemusic AT tapulous DOT com" and put your TTR3 username (and only your username) in the email subject line.
And hey, if that's not enough free stuff, keep reading -- here at TUAW, we're giving away licenses to
TTR3's
entire premium catalog (
the whole thing, from A Perfect Circle to Robbie Williams) to three lucky commenters.

Yes, the 3GS does include basic editing tools, but very basic, and no effects at all (stitching, etc). Now that all changes with the release of ReelDirector for the iPhone.
Nexvio’s iPhone app makes up for Apple’s omissions by adding in the ability to add titles, basic video effects and, most importantly, clip stitching as well. [...]
If you can’t really beat ‘em, sue ‘em. That’s apparently what Nokia has decided in the latest lawsuit against Apple filed today.
Nokia announced that it is lodging a lawsuit against Apple claiming that the iPhone violates 10 Nokia-held patents related to cellular and Wi-Fi technologies. Odds are it’ll get settled with some amount of legal [...]
Microsoft exec Steve Ballmer has been known to talk major smack about the iPhone in general, and this time he states that the internet wasn’t designed for the iPhone. Really? An invention created decades ago wasn’t made for a smartphone that came out 2 years ago. Imagine that.
Here’s his exact quote: “Let’s face it, the [...]

AT&T CEO Ralph de la Vega stated that his carrier’s exclusive agreement to sell Apple’s iPhone in the US… will end one day. Of course, we knew this. You knew this. AT&T and Apple knew this. Everybody knew this, because they’ve said it before. Still, on the eve of a highly successful quarterly results report, where the iPhone once again carried the day for AT&T earnings, they obviously felt the need to say it again:
“We have a legacy of having a great portfolio…that will continue after the iPhone is no longer exclusive to us. We think we will continue after the iPhone…to drive [results]….” [...] “we feel really good about our non-iPhone [subscriber] adds and net adds…. We feel really strong about our portfolio in quick messaging devices, including BlackBerry and all the smartphones.” [...] “Even if we lose exclusivity [of the iPhone], we will be the only carrier with HSPA 7.2 [a network specification being deployed at AT&T] and [new devices] will work on our network faster. I feel as strongly as ever [about] the capability of devices in our lineup and [am] super-excited about the deals with e-readers and personal navigation devices.”
Apparently, like Verizon, AT&T will seek post-iPhone solace in much more carrier-control friendly Android…

Microsoft has opened their first Microsoft Store, and kudos to them for that. However, we can’t help but feel that by literally copying an Apple Store to the degree that only the signage and products are swapped out, Microsoft cost consumers a chance to experience something different, something innovative, and something that would have continued to push the retail part of the computer and smartphone industry.
Same decor, Gurus in lieu of Geniuses, colored shirts, hiring Apple executives and store staff, even the same opening festivities. Gruber’s right:
It’s creepy, as in like stalker-ish creepy, just how blatantly they’ve copied Apple.
Stepford.

Nokia isn't happy with the iPhone. In a
suit filed today in U.S. District Court, Nokia claims that Apple has violated 10 of Nokia's wireless technology patents. The company says the patents "relate to technologies fundamental to making devices," that are compatible with the GSM, UMTS, or 3G WCDMA, and wireless LAN standards.
The claims involve cover wireless data, speech coding, security and encryption technologies.
Nokia says Apple has been in violation of these patents since the iPhone launched in 2007.
Nokia says it has invested more than 60
million billion dollars in research and development, but says Apple has not adequately compensated the firm. Nokia is the world's largest supplier of smartphones, but most recently reported a loss of U.S. $836 million dollars, while company shipments of phones has dropped.
Apple, on the other hand, reported 4th quarter results Monday with iPhone sales up 7% from the same period a year ago.
Nokia sued Qualcomm over wireless patents and settled that dispute in July of 2008, but the terms remains confidential.
