Which Verizon Droid Feature Do You Most Want on the iPhone?(answers)

Verizon and Motorola have taken their shots at the iPhone, and TiPb has offered some counter points, but truth be told there’s not a smartphone on the planet that’s anywhere close to perfect yet, so even our signature device, Apple’s iPhone, has plenty of room for improvement. Since Steve Jobs is a firm believer in “great artists steal”, which feature do you think Apple should consider stealing from the Droid for the next version of the iPhone?

(We’ve already asked for an iPhone HD going on a year now, and don’t get us started on notifications again…)

    3. More unit conversions and constants.
    4. A virtual paper tape and display of memory registers.

Orange UK's iPhone contract & pay as you go pricing plans detailed
We're just about a week away from the Orange iPhone launch, and if you folks across the pond were wondering what the deal was going to cost you, you now have your answer thanks to a dizzying but thoroughly helpful series of tables that lay out the costs of the phones, plans, and the various accoutrement to be included. Those willing to sign up for 24 months can get an 8GB iPhone 3G for free for a minimum of £29.36 ($48) per month, but step up to the £122.34 ($200) monthly plan with unlimited everything and you'll get a 32GB 3GS gratis. Meanwhile, on a pay as you go plan that same 8GB 3G will cost you £343 ($561), while the 32GB 3GS is a rather more painful £539 ($881 -- haven't you figured out the conversion rate yet?). You know what that means: contract ahoy.

Orange UK iPhone Pricing Plans Just Say No to Price War

Orange UK iPhone Pricing

Orange UK is set to break O2’s iPhone exclusivity… if not their price points with the announcement of their pay monthly, pay as you go, and for business plans.

What did we notice off the top? Depending on how much you pay on contract or up front, your iPhone hardware cost can go down to as little as free or climb to as much as £539 for an iPhone 3GS on PAYG. (Also, PAYG plans named Monkey, Dolphin, Canary, Racoon, and Camel? Where’s John Cleese to “spokesperson” that when you need him…)

Unlimited internet and Wi-Fi, however, carry a “fair usage policy of 750MB/month” proviso, which looks rather pathetic next to unofficial US caps of 5GB. Good on them for not hiding it, but placing that paltry figure anywhere close to “unlimited” probably means they shouldn’t use “unlimited” to begin with.

Not much in terms of cutting O2’s pricing though. Maybe Vodafone will feel a bit more daring?

If you’re thinking of going Orange, check out the full pricing info and let us know if it’s what you expected, better, or worse?

Monday Fun Video: OWLE Hacks iPhone into Near-Broadcast Quality Video Rig

Take on OWLE team, add a hack into the iPhone dock connector, and what do you get? According to TechCrunch:

The latest prototype that OWLE has developed, which is different than what they start shipping tomorrow, allows you to use lenses with depth of field and telephoto effects, XLR microphones (both wired and wireless microphones), stereo microphones and more. Basically, it allows you to plug in any professional audio equipment that filmmakers use, on your iPhone. The mics are plugged in through the 30 pin, and the telephoto lens was cobbled together.

RED likely need not be fearful… yet!

XM SkyDock now available for iPod touch and iPhone drivers

We know what iPhone owners want: Rosie O'Donnell talking on their car radios from coast-to-coast. Good, 'cause the $120 XM SkyDock is now available for purchase giving you full, touchscreen control and tagging capabilities over your in-car satellite radio. SkyDock features a built-in XM tuner and PowerConnect FM transmitter than bungs into the ol' cigarette lighter / power adapter socket to charge your Apple device while holding it in portrait or landscape modes depending on your preference. While XM keeps things simple by making the App a free download from Apple's App Store, you'll still have to thread the antenna cable along the inside of your vehicle's weather stripping in order to attach the magnetic antenna to your car's roof (just above your front windshield) for optimal results. Sounds messy.
