Wolfram|Alpha has discontinued their iPhone-friendly formatted webpage.
The page, which was available at
http://wolframalpha.com/iphone, now redirects visitors to
http://products.wolframalpha.com/iphone/, which is an information page related to their $50 iPhone app [
iTunes Link].
Another page,
http://www.wolframalpha.com/addtoyouriphone.html, shows iPhone users how to add the website to their iPhone (hint: just like any other page). Visiting the website in Mobile Safari brings up the image shown here, also suggesting that you buy the iPhone app.
The app gained wide attention when it was first announced due to its price tag, which critics said was far too high. Others rebuffed the criticism by saying that if you didn't want to use the app you could use the iPhone-friendly webpage.
Perhaps too many people did just that.

Ever since Apple rolled out their iPod touch based EasyPay POS to some of it’s retail stores they have been flooded with inquires from other retailers looking to get in on the Apple goodness. It was just a a few short weeks ago that certain Apple retail stores ditched their crash prone Windows CE + stylus based EasyPay point-of-sale devices and since then it has raised the curiosity of other retailers.
“Since the debut of the iPod POS, inquires have been coming from all directions, including from end-user small businesses, larger chains and system integrators. Until now, Apple’s response has been that the iPod POS is a proprietary product, unavailable for sale,” Allen said. “But now, tipsters say, Apple retail executives have asked the retail store business specialists to collect contact information from anyone who inquires about the iPod touch system, apparently to create a database of potential customers if Apple decides to commercialize the product.”
The EasyPay POS system is capable of handling all cash, credit, and debit transactions along with some product returns. Would this be an Apple-like move to sell this device for other retailers to use? Sound off in the comments!

EA has announced that they're bringing
Mirror's Edge, the inventive "first-person jumper" title that intrigued gamers last year,
to the iPhone and iPod touch via the App Store. I was disappointed to see that it's not actually just a straight port (it would be interesting to see how the topsy-turvy platformer would fare with some gesture and accelerometer input), but instead it's more of an isometric platformer. In fact,
the screenshots kind of remind me of
Canabalt, though this will probably be more complex, with occasional combat and a story.
Looks like it'll be fun, especially for
Mirror's Edge fans looking for a little extra gameplay before the eventual sequel comes out. The game boasts 14 levels run by the game's original protagonist, Faith, and while there's no price mentioned yet, I'm guessing EA will start it out around $6.99, and then probably bring it back down to $4.99 once sales level off.

Not sure if it’s the year winding down, or malaise with alternatives, but a variety of sites have begun once again re-listing the quotes of competing executives who doubted Apple or the iPhone had potential, staying power, or even any chance for success what-so-ever. 3 generations, 40 odd million units, 100,000 applications, and 2 billion downloads later, these revisitations include:
