With just two weeks to go before WWDC, Boy Genius Report is reporting that Apple has ceased shipments of the iPhone 3G to AT&T stores. Now throw in the fact that new orders for the device are not being accepted and it’s a pretty good sign the iPhone 3G’s days are numbered.
“Could this mean we might see the iPhone 3GS drop to $99 and make way for a new model? Or maybe the 3GS would disappear altogether? We’re not sure, but we’re about to find out.”
It’s a funny thing that BGR mentioned the price drop of the iPhone 3GS because as of today Walmart is dropping the price of the 16GB version to $97 with a two year service agreement. It appears as if the iPhone 3GS is about to replace the iPhone 3G as the budget iPhone. Keep an eye out for Apple to drop their price in two weeks…

digg_url = 'http://digg.com/apple/American_Beauty_director_at_work_on_iPhone_4G_ads'; Well this can't be tremendously surprising. Apparently
American Beauty director Sam Mendes is in the process of putting together a series of commercials for Apple's
next iPhone, which according to a tipster is being referred to internally as the Mammoth / N90. Besides that tip (with a handful of juicy details), a trusted source has confirmed to us that the ads will feature at least one spot where a mother and daughter are having a video chat conversation using the new front-facing camera that's been spied on the face of that iPhone floating around
Vietnam and
Northern California. Adding weight to this story, a cursory search on Twitter revealed that there's at least one actress who is up for a role in the "f***ing apple commercial" in New York, and another fellow who is auditioning for spots in California. We don't know much more than that, but we're fairly confident that this confirms video chat is coming to the next iPhone, and that that said iPhone isn't very far from our grasp. Remember folks,
June 7th is just a kiss away.

Well, this is intriguing: Walmart just officially announced that it'll be selling the 16GB iPhone 3GS for $97 starting Tuesday, a full $100 off the regular price. Given the high probability that Steve Jobs will introduce the thoroughly-leaked
next-gen iPhone when he
gives the WWDC 2010 keynote on June 7th, the price cut seems like either an attempt to clear out remaining inventory or a way to slide the 3GS down the line to replace the $99 8GB iPhone 3G -- a move which would corroborate some whispers we've heard today that the 3G is no longer being shipped to stores. Either way, the 3GS just got a lot cheaper, which is never a bad thing, but we'd still say potential iPhone owners should wait a couple weeks and see what's coming next.
[Thanks, Ryan]

Much like
Captain Ahab, Taiwanese Apple fan site tw.apple.pro is in pursuit of something elusive and white. They've posted pictures of what they claim to be the 4G iPhone with white casing on the back and front. Last week, the same site posted
side-by-side photos of black and white faceplates supposedly meant for the new iPhone.
I know it's a matter of aesthetics, but I prefer the iPhone with the black faceplace (speaking as a guy with a white 3GS). The photo looks legit, so we're not doubting it, though the home button looks seriously recessed. Perhaps there's a case or layer of plastic on top of it, or maybe a shadow is playing tricks.
In any case, it looks like there will be an all-white iPhone 4G. So there you go.
Update: As of this writing, tw.apple.pro is down. We'll let you know if it returns.

Likely rumor or an AT&T customer's wishful thinking? The rumor that won't die is the end of AT&T's iPhone exclusivity in the US. We've heard the name "Verizon"
bandied about, but this time it's Sprint's turn.
According to The Tech Update, a Best Buy employee sent their editors an email that CONFIRMS (in all caps no less, so it must be true) that Sprint will carry the iPhone this summer. He also expects in-store displays to confirm the change within "...a week or two." From the email:
"
...our mobile manager speculates that Apple wanted to drop AT&T due to their poor service but managed to opt-out of the rest of their contract in exchange for the iPad service deal."
The "evidence" in this case points to an email which could have come from any old schmoe, really. The fact is none of us know what will happen with the iPhone in the US. Here's what we can assume: First, Apple entered into a contract with AT&T. Eventually, that contract will end and when it does, both parties will assess their experience. At that time, a change may or may not be made. For all we know, we'll be sending iSmoke signals in July.
Patience, grasshopper. All will be revealed.

Brad Wardell is CEO of Stardock and a well known Windows developer who has just spent 3 weeks with the iPad and been impressed with its instant-on capabilities for email, rss, web browsing, video watching, social networking, and otherwise consuming content to the extent he thinks it may spell the beginning of the end for desktop Windows dominance.
I love my ThinkPad T400. But when I go to it, I have to pray whether it’ll come out of sleep. If it does come out of sleep, it’ll be slow. Maybe it will be out of batteries. Who knows. What I do know is that it’s far too slow as a consumer device. Netbooks are even worse. It seems like such a little thing – instant on. But it’s the difference between a DVR and a VCR in terms of leap of effective functionality.
He also likes that developers can make a lot of cool $2 apps. His take away:
The 3 things I mention here are so outshine the Windows PC experience that if Microsoft doesn’t get off its duff and start addressing them soon then I predict Windows will become purely a content creation device whose content is primarily consumed elsewhere. There’s really no excuse that in 2010, Windows is in the shape its in (particularly with regard to instant on).
I use Mac far more than Windows these days, but if I’m not doing hardcore content creation, I’m closing the lid and picking up my iPad. It’s just that convenient.

iPhone 3G in Australian online Apple Store

A report over on
Digital Daily this morning reveals something that may not come as much of a surprise -- people on other carriers (in this instance, Verizon) want the
iPhone. Recent research out of Morgan Stanley shows there is "significant" demand for Apple's cellular delight -- with about 16.8 percent of Verizon's subscribers having "extreme interest" in the product compared to 7.5 percent in the overall population. What does this mean? It means that, if given the chance (i.e. if the
iPhone came to Verizon), about 17 percent of current users would switch. That's a pretty high number, to be sure, and Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty estimates that such a deal could move around 7 or 8 million iPhones annually. Of course, all of this comes from an analyst, and it's based on an unscientific survey, so take it with a grain of salt. Still, what's the deal, Steve? We know you love money -- make it happen!
